At Day Surgery at RiverBend, we work hard to meet the needs of children and establish a relaxed, safe, and comfortable environment. We encourage parents to bring their kids in for a visit and tour the facility. Tour times are best in the afternoon before 4:00 p.m. Please call 541-852-4800 to coordinate a tour with a pre-op nurse.
Parents/guardians are able to stay with their child until surgery. Parents/guardians are able to rejoin their child as soon as they have safely awakened from the anesthesia. Expect 30 minutes to two hours for recovery, depending on the type of surgery. If the child is between 12 months and 12 years old, the parent may accompany the child to the operating room and offer reassurance to your child.
Fluid/food instructions before surgery — You will receive age specific instructions from your Anesthesiologist.
Please bring the following to the surgery center for your child:
- Favorite toy or blanket
- Bottle/sippy cup
- Diapers and change of clothing
A parent or legal guardian must accompany children and that person must remain at the Day Surgery center before and during the procedure, while the patient is in recovery, and until he or she is discharged.
Other Important Information:
If the patient cannot read or speak English or communicates with sign language, an interpreter will be provided. Please contact Day Surgery if you need interpreter services at 541-852-4800.
