Dr. Cusati was born and raised in Venezuela. After obtaining his medical degree at Universidad Central de Venezuela – Escuela de Medicina Luis Razetti, he moved to the United States and completed surgical training. After finishing a general surgery residency at Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota, he completed surgical sub-specialty training and two fellowships in minimally invasive surgery and in hepato-pancreato-biliary surgery.

Certified by the American Board of Surgery, Dr. Cusati is a member of the Lane County Medical Society, Mayo Clinic Priestly Society, Society of American Gastrointestinal and Endoscopic Surgeons (SAGES), American Medical Association, Americas Hepato-Pancreato-Biliary Association, and American College of Surgeons.

He has published and lectured nationally on multiple topics, including minimally invasive surgery and hepato-pancreato-biliary surgery. He also serves an Affiliate Associate Professor of Surgery at Oregon Health & Science University (OHSU), assisting with training of medical students.
